I'm excited today that one of my poems found its way into the world. It's a sort of introductory poem to the new poetry collection I've been working on for two years now. As I promote it on social media and such, the southern girl in me is feeling sheepish that it's not at all G-rated. It tells stories that are difficult to hear and asks us all to think about what we allow ourselves to "see"--really what we allow ourselves to process---vs. what we let slip right past us.
In the coming blog articles, I will tell more about my journey toward this new collection of poems---it has taken me from a love of ghost stories to the real-life stories of women committed to the asylum near where I grew up. It has made me strong in my resolve to truly see others, no matter how painful that might be.
